You don't need to be anywhere near water to explore the seas. That's because Wemo Media has created theBlu, a vast and captivating underwater world inspired by the ocean. Gaze into the amazing abyss long enough and you'll forget you're on dry land.

The highly talented team of designers and advisors behind theBlu includes Academy Award winner Andy Jones (of Avatar fame) and MIT Media Lab Director Joichi Ito. Why work to render such a realistic sea life environment? As John Bates, Evangelist for theBlu, told Discovery News here at CES, "We would like to give people who don't have easy access to the ocean a whole new experience and an emotional connection."

Part of that connection involves viewing, follwing and interacting with the true-to-life fish. You also have the option of collecting additional fish (for $2 to $20). And beyond that, you can even take a creative role in building out the environment and creating sea life, with personal guidance from the Wemo Media team and critiques by Andy Jones.

The project is currently in private beta. But the folks at theBlu have generously agreed to let a limited number of Discovery News readers dive right in. If you'd like to access theBlu, go to their page, click Register and put 'blugadget' for the invite code. The first 500 Discovery News readers will be able to jump in and get their feet wet...so to speak.
