Verizon Usage Control: $4.99 per line/ per month
To the dismay of many a linked-in teenager, Verizon has upgraded parental usage controls to include data usage restrictions. For $4.99 a month (per line) users will be able to control content purchases, like apps and games, prevent calling, texting or data usage during certain hours and block certain numbers from contacting that line.

This kind of control does seem over the top, but one feature deserves some praise. If anyone on the family plan dials 911, a notification can be sent to administrators -- kind of like an all-hands call to family members that something is up. Adding $5 a month to your monthly bill seems like a backwards way to save money, but controls like this could do just that by preventing overage fees and get your kid off the phone by bed time.
So, now that they’re including data usage in parental controls, can we start hoping for a family data plan? I foresee that saving a lot more money than any usage control plan.
