Ever since Siri was released on the iPhone 4S in October, hackers worldwide have found ways to bring her to other devices. Davis Remmel decided to take a break from coding all day to do some hardware hacking with an old rotary phone, a cheap Bluetooth headset and Apple’s monotone assistant. He was inspired by the days when rotary phone users had operators connect them to other numbers.

The project sounds easier than it seems. Remmel started by taking apart the Bluetooth headset and relocating its microphone and speaker to the rotary phone’s headset. After that, all that was left to do was to move the Bluetooth’s button to the rotary wheel. In the instructions given in his blog post, Remmel suggests that the button be placed on a lower number (not zero) so that you are connected faster. The video below shows the rotary phone in action.
