A life-sized robot is now on the market for $7,000 from the firm TrueCompanion. Inventor Douglas Hines introduced Roxxxy last month at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. Hines, who used to work as an artificial intelligence engineer at Bell Labs before starting his company, embedded the robot with a slew of advanced technologies such as voice-recognition and speech-synthesis software to give it a lifelike presence.
For example, when someone addresses Roxxxy, a computer uses pattern-recognition software to match the phrase to a database of responses. She then answers using a prerecorded voice.
Some other tantalizing attributes, if you're into that kind of thing:
- A wireless connection to the Internet for software updates, technical support and email messages.
- A customizable personality
- Skin made from hypoallergenic silicone
- A motor pumps heated air through the robot's body, keeping it warm to the touch.
- Sensors in several places (ahem) that will trigger vocal responses when activated
