Software Knows Paris is Not London
Though movies would have us believe out every window is a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower or the Golden Gate, it just isn't true. However, the feeling of a city is difficult to pinpoint. Dropping into the middle of a random place many of us could guess what city we're in by contexual clues and now this software can do the same.
Using the sweeping balconies to identify Paris, the Victorian doorways and iron fences for London and the bay windows of San Francisco this software can predict exactly where you are. Someday perhaps Hollywood can use context clues to show us we're somewhere in the vastness of Russia without resorting to stock footage of Red Square in Moscow. via New Scientist
