New Kindle Fire HD Lights Up: At an Amazon press conference today in Santa Monica, Calif., Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced his company's latest versions of its e-readers, the Kindle Fire HD and the Kindle Paperwhite. The new Fire has a 7-inch display, a 40-percent faster processor, twice as much RAM, and longer battery life than the original model. It will now sell for $159 when it starts shipping on Sept. 14th. The Paperwhite weighs 7.5 ounces, is thinner than a magazine and lighter than a paperback. It has a brighter, sharper front-lit screen and is meant to go up against other e-readers such as the Barnes & Noble Nook with Glow Light.It will sell for $119 and is available starting today. Paperwhite with 3G will cost $179, and will begin shipping Oct. 1.
