It’s the Nexus 7-iPad face off.
Nine of 10 tablet warranty claims are due to drops and spills, according to Squaretrade. With this in mind, the independent warranty provider put the two tablets by Google and Apple under a battery of tests, dropping both devices from various heights and ultimately into a tub of water.
The Nexus 7 suffered from scuffs on the back. The iPad fell on a corner and suffered from cracks.
The Nexus 7 again falls on its back — a few more scuffs. The iPad, unfortunately, falls on a corner then lands on its face, so there’s more damage to its screen.
The screens for both devices still work, but the iPad’s speakers no longer function after the bath. Audio on the Nexus 7 still works.
Though unscientific, the last test is especially telling because there’s less variation in how a device fell. When it comes to water, at least, the Nexus 7 is definitely the tougher gadget.
