Depending on who you ask, cell phones may or may not increase your risk of cancer.

For the cautious, it’s unreasonable in today’s day and age to forego mobile phones all together, but there are cell phone cases designed to decrease exposure to radiation. Pong‘s cases help protect users from unnecessary exposure to electromagnetic radiation, a microwave energy emitted from mobile phones.

In company tests, Pong has found decreased Specific Absorption Rate — which governments use to measure radiation levels from cell phones — on phones covered with its cases. When testing the iPhone 4/4S, the company saw a 75 percent SAR reduction. Low signal strength increases electromagnetic radiation intensity, so Pong’s cases redirect the radiation away from users’ heads, propagating instead as energy toward cell towers. This subsequently helps improves signal strength, according to the company.

Pong’s cases are tuned to specific cell phones, since each model has different antennas with varying radiation characteristics. The case is minimalistic yet sturdy; I can definitely see folks buying this as an accessory even without the radiation claims. Currently, there are cases for various iPhone, Blackberry, iPad and Android models.
