Starting today, students can rent their school books from Amazon.com’s Kindle Textbook Rental service. Tens of thousands of books are available for the 2011 school year and can save students up to 80%!

The program’s rental period is pay-as-needed with rental periods ranging from 30 days to 360. Of course, you can buy the book at anytime. Like other Kindle books, the textbooks are rent once, read everywhere and can be read on multiple devices.

“Students tell us that they enjoy the low prices we offer on new and used print textbooks. Now we’re excited to offer students an option to rent Kindle textbooks and only pay for the time they need–with savings up to 80% off the print list price on a 30-day rental,” said Dave Limp, vice president, Amazon Kindle.

If you tend to go a little highlight crazy with your textbooks, Amazon has that covered. All margin notes and highlights you make are saved to the Amazon Cloud and always available.
