Know what your iPad needs?
A phone number. At least that’s what Line2 is trying to sell you. The VoIP company is launching a service allowing you to make calls over a headset or the built-in speaker and mic. Other services include listening to voicemail and sending and receiving text messages from your iPad. You can demo the service for a week when it’s available July 28, but after that it’ll be $9.95 a month, or $99.50 a year.
Why not just use your existing phone? Well, Line2 has a whole list of reasons, including using your Line2 number to manage incoming calls while on the prowl for a job and not having to give out your personal number while on the prowl for a love life. To be fair, all of these reasons also apply to Google Voice, which is free but doesn’t support voice calls on the iPad. Sad face.
