This photo of a plate of sushi has been gathering buzz all day. Why? Because it is rumored to have been shot on an iPhone 5 camera.

Before you ooh and ahh, there are a couple points to take into consideration that might seem … fishy.

For one, the sushi photo was allegedly cropped down from an 8-megapixel photo to a 5-megapixel one, according to gadget blog dvice. Current iPhone rumors predict the next-gen phone to sport an 8-megapixel camera. The iPhone 4 has a 5-megapixel camera. Why was the sushi photo cropped? To possibly cover things up, dvice says.

Next, the embedded data in the photo claims the sushi was shot with an iPhone 4. But according to TechCrunch, the data could’ve been altered, or the prototype iPhone 5 could’ve been disguised as an iPhone 4.

But it’s very likely the photo did indeed originate from Apple’s headquarters. The GPS coordinates say the photo was shot at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino.

Photo aside, who’s now hungry for sushi?
