Annoyance at the changed charging port on the iPhone 5, coupled with the lack of a dock for this latest sensation from Apple, drove one man to build his own dock with an integrated power cord. For what amounts to about $1 in materials, Casey Neistat built a working iPhone 5 dock in a jiffy.
Some of the commenters on this video complain that they don’t have a full shop like Neistat does, but his design is so simple that it could be built with just a saw and a drill – and maybe even with hand tools, if you’re up to it.
The dock isn’t super-stylish or available in designer colors, but then again, the great thing about DIY projects is that you can build them in any color you like! I imagine with this project as your starting point, you’ll be able to come up with your own version of a cheap and effective iPhone 5 dock.
