“Battlestar Galactica” enthusiasts have found creative outlets to express their fandom. Yesterday, we wrote about high school kids who are raising money on Kickstarter to build a real-life Viper flight simulator. Today, we present another equally awesome project inspired by the sci-fi series: an 111-pound LEGO model of the Galactica starship.
The scale model of the Valkyrie by Garry King is made of 42,341 toy bricks and took five months to construct. It measures 122 by 43.3 by 14.9 inches, and include landing bays measuring 51 by 9.24 by 5.7 inches.
King constructed this behemoth referencing images on the Internet, though he noted “I guess if I had a blueray player and dvd’s I could have seen more detail.” (Side note: Don’t sell yourself short, buddy — this is stunning.) Even moving the model to the garage to take photos was a two-day ordeal. But boy did the photos turn out great.
