Apple’s PC sales now represent 10.7% of the market, according to AppleInsider, citing preliminary results from IDC, a market research firm.
In the second quarter, Apple sold 1.92 million computers in the U.S., a 14.7% jump from the same period a year earlier. These numbers seat Apple as the No. 3 computer manufacturer in the U.S., behind HP and Dell who have 26.3 percent and 22.2 percent market share, respectively. But most of the largest manufacturers saw a decline in shipments in the second quarter compared with a year ago. The only other company that saw growth, aside from Apple, was Toshiba, ranked No. 4 by market share.
Overall, though, PC sales are in a decline, AppleInsider noted, citing a move toward tablets and smaller corporate budgets now focused on cloud computing and virtualization.
