3D Printed Robotic Exoskeleton Helps Young Girl

Young Emma Lavelle suffers from arthrogryposis, a condition that has left her muscles underdeveloped. Because of this, she cannot move her arms or legs under her own power. Fortunately, there is a device called a Wilmington Robotic Exoskeleton that offers the support she needs. Unfortunately, the cost of the exoskeleton is prohibitive for a growing girl that will need many over the coming years.

Now, engineers have started using 3D printing technology to craft a smaller, lighter exoskeleton at a fraction of the price. The innovation has helped Emma and 15 other children as well.
