ooVoo: Free -- additional features available in monthly plans or pay-per-call

By 2013, ooVoo projects it'll have 100 million members. Wait, what's ooVoo? Currently with more than 26 million worldwide members -- about a third of which are international -- it's the most popular video chat service you probably haven't heard of. Last month on iTunes, ooVoo was ranked in the Top 10 Free Apps and was the top social networking app, beating out Facebook, Skype and Twitter. Roughly 60 percent of those on ooVoo are under 25 and use the service to view and share online videos, watch TV together and meet new people.

All ooVoo versions allow you to video chat in high definition on multiple platforms (Web, PC, Mac, Android or iOS mobile phone), share files, upload calls to YouTube, embed video chat rooms on your site and send video messages to both ooVoo and non-members. The free version lets you chat with up to three friends, colleagues or strangers. To get the premium ooVoo features, such as voice calling, desktop sharing, call recording and up to six users on the same call, only one participant in the group has to be signed up for the paid version. By comparison, Skype requires premium membership starting at three, but allows up to seven on a call.
