Recharging our laptops and our phones is something that most of us don’t give a second thought to, but in the very near future we might look back and smile with bemusement at the memory of having to plug in our electronics on a regular basis.

Industrial designer Andrea Ponti has a design for a laptop that is fully powered by solar energy. Of course there are many products and accessories currently on the market that use solar power, but no device has yet been developed that depends upon sunlight as much as the proposed ‘Luce’ laptop.

The design, which has been shortlisted in Fujitsu’s 2011 Design competition, calls for two solar panels that are able to provide a continuous charge throughout the day. The first solar panel is placed behind the screen; the second is placed beneath a touch keyboard. The sleek design of the laptop calls for a clear polycarbonate body bringing the total weight of the machine to approximately four pounds.

The laptop is expected to include a battery for evening use, but it is still uncertain where this battery will fit into the minimal design.

The announcement of the ‘Luce’ laptop joins several similar conceptual designs that have been floating around recently including a rumored Samsung solar-powered Netbook called the NC215S and another 2011 Fujitsu shortlisted design called the ‘Lifebook Leaf.’
