Who says the digital age has destroyed our hands-on creativity? Not Marcus Triest. The University of Oregon senior created an iPhone boombox made of wood with and a line of clear acrylic in between. According to an interview from the local CBS station in Eugene, Oregon, Triest was upset with the “gimmicky, plastic sort of feel” of current boom boxes and wanted to create something durable to slip into his back pack.
The industrial design student posted the instructions on Instructables. The project requires little in the ways of materials, but plenty of heavy duty tools and workshop know-how. If you’re into that and want to try your hand at building your own boom box, it’s definitely a project worth checking out.
