There's a new way to eat: it's called breathing. A professor of biomedical engineering from Harvard has invented a device that lets you taste chocolate without the calories.
The product, le Whif, was invented by David Edwards, who previously invented an inhaler that delivers insulin to the body in fine particles. The chocolate inhaler works on the same premise, however, the particles are made bigger so that they do not pass into the airway or stomach, but settle onto the tongue and tastebuds. The result is the taste of chocolate for the cost of about 1 calorie.
Le Whif, which comes in mint, raspberry and dark chocolate flavors, was announced in April 2009 but just went into commercial production.
The developers believe that "whiffing" will catch on with other foods that are normally high in calories or with flavors that may be enticing but inedible, such as lobster. For more deets, see the video.
