Cupcakes have made a comeback. What was once a lowly boxed treat for toddler classmates on your birthday is now a gourmet dessert. They are popping up with elaborate decorations at high brow social events and even replacing three-tiered cakes at weddings. Their most recent conquest? The ATM.
Sprinkles Cupcakes in Los Angeles has brought two seemingly ordinary things together to make something quirky and unique. The automat can hold 600 cakes and will dispense freshly baked goodies 24 hours a day, as well as mixes, clothes and special treats for your pup.
A rep for Sprinkles talked to Fox News to dispel any concerns over the quality and freshness of the cupcakes. She explains that bakers at the shop usually work until late at night, around 11 p.m., and return very early in the morning to ensure that every cake in the ATM has been baked just a few hours before customers buy it.
The first ATM will be situated in Los Angles, between the bakery and their new ice cream shop, with the cakes costing $4 each. The bakery plans to install more ATMs in all of their major city shops.
