Aug. 17, 2012 — Retired space shuttles Endeavour and Atlantis paused for a brief photo opportunity this week, a final group shot before the ships head off to their respective museums for display.

Endeavour is due to depart the Kennedy Space Center on Sept. 17 for the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

Atlantis has a shorter trip. It will be towed down the road to the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Center in November.

Sister ship Discovery already is at its new home at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC.
