NASA has upgraded its self-portrait.
The satellites responsible for taking photos of Earth have been replaced! The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites have new high-definition Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) cameras and they can take unprecedented photos of our planet at night.
The satellites are used for planetary monitoring, but though they're mainly scientific, this is one of those times when science and art overlap. via GlobalPost
