Last weekend, the moon made its closest approach to Earth since 1993, making the lunar disk appear 14 percent bigger in the night sky. This event coincided with a full moon, ensuring that, weather permitting, it would be a spectacularly bright moon.
And it didn't disappoint. The lunar "perigee" excited professional astronomers, amateur astronomers and people who wouldn't be otherwise interested in astronomy. So, Discovery News appealed to its readers to send in their own photographs.
Browse on to see the moon at its most beautiful from all locations around the world. Thanks to all the photographers who participated!
