Oct. 17, 2011 -- Photographer Adrian J. Scott captured this great image of a prop plane silhouetted against a waning gibbous moon on Oct. 13, 2011, from his location in Sutton, England.

"I have spent hours with the telescope pointed at the moon, just waiting for passing air traffic," Adrian told Discovery News. "It's become a game I play, living in-between two international airports. On this night the moon was so bright I nearly missed this one approaching. The big surprise was when I got home and loaded the photos onto the computer and realized I had caught a propeller. You can see each individual propeller blade; it really gives a sense of scale to the moon."

Separated by about 240,000 miles the moon and the plane make a beautiful subject duo... great capture Adrian!
