Aug. 06, 2012 — Finally, after years of planning, research and engineering, the team at JPL's mission control could cheer and celebrate after the near-perfect entry, descent and landing on the Martian surface. As the celebrations ensued, low resolution photographs started being received. The pictures show a part of Mars never before seen by human eyes. The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) rover named "Curiosity" is equipped with a nuclear-powered lab capable of vaporizing rocks and ingesting soil, measuring habitability, and whether Mars ever had an environment able to support small microbial life.
