Protests Cause Problems for Adidas Shackle Shoes
Athletic clothing manufacturer Adidas created a product they now regret announcing the JS Roundhouse Mids. While the name might sound innocuous, the style is really what caused a buzz.
The shoes are traditional hi-tops with an orange and purple motif, but attached to the shoes are chains and bright orange shackles meant to be worn around the ankles.
Not surprisingly, most of the response has been negative. Even Reverend Jesse Jackson weighed in saying, "The attempt to commercialize and make popular more than 200 years of human degradation, where blacks were considered three-fifths human by our Constitution is offensive, appalling and insensitive."
Adidas apologized and denied the shoes' design had anything to do with slavery, but the outcry continues as images of the now-withdrawn shoe circle the internet. via CNN
