Marine Dads Standing Guard for Kids:
In combat boots and full fatigues, but unarmed, veterans of the United States Marine Corps are volunteering their time to stand guard in front of elementary schools. They are there to honor and protect.
Marine Sgt. Craig Pusley, who served two terms in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, has taken up sentry in front of the flagpole at Hughson Elementary School in California where he intends to send his 3-year-old son.
"I'm part of a Marine Corps fraternity, and I started noticing online postings that if marines stood in front of schools, we never would have had the Connecticut problem," Pusley said.
In Nashville, Tenn., Staff Sgt. Jordan Pritchard stands guard outside Gower Elementary school where his two children attend. Like Pusley, he is unarmed. "What this uniform represents, the hope it brings, is larger than any weapon that I would ever need," Pritchard told the local WSMV television station.
