Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know that you know that smoking cigarettes is bad for you… Cancer. Heart disease. A raspy voice. But for some reason, 1.1 billion people around the world — including 25% of all high school students — still inhale a complex cocktail of chemicals into their lungs every day.
How complex? There are more than 4,800 chemicals in cigarette smoke, many poisonous, including ammonia, paint, arsenic, butane found in lighters, and cadmium, the toxic heavy metal you’ll find in rechargeable batteries.
And just for good measure, there’s Hydrogen Cyanide. That’s the stuff that has been used in prison executions for decades. (I’ll let you write your own clever “death sentence” pun for that one.)
