Some people turn to a pet cemetery when their beloved feline companions pass, but according to Sky News and the New York Daily News, one Dutchman turned to creativity — mixed in with a little bizarre.
Artist Bart Jansen took his deceased cat Orville, had the corpse go through the process of taxidermy, and attached helicopter propellors to its limbs with the help of RC helicopter expert Arjen Beltman. The result is his moving, remote-controlled art piece known as the “Orvillecopter,” which not only pays weird homage to his former feline friend, but coincidentally nods to one of the Wright Brothers who introduced man to the technology of flight:
The bizarre flying creation was unveiled at the Kunstrai art festival in Amsterdam, albeit with limited flight ability. However, “[The Orvillecopter] will receive more powerful engines and larger props for his birthday,” Jansen says. “So this hopping will soon change into steady flight.”
