Lesbian Blood Allowed in China: Lesbians in China are now allowed to donate blood, after a 14-year-old ban was lifted that had prevented homosexuals from giving to blood banks, the Times of India reports.
China's blood-donating guidelines now bar men sexually active with other men from giving. It does not mention homosexuality.
The previous rules were written when AIDS was first found in China, and Chinese authorities misunderstood the difference between risky sexual activity and sexual proclivity.
The head of a Chinese NGO supporting lesbians and bisexuals, Xian, told the Times of India: "It is also about our dignity and the elimination of blood donation discrimination." via Times of India
