New SARS-like Virus Strikes Again: A family
in Denmark may have become the most recent victims of a new virulent respiratory illness, reports The
Telegraph.
The father of the family of four had traveled recently to Saudi Arabia. The family, plus one
other person who had travelled recently to Qatar — where this SARS-related virus is thought to have
originated — were prompted by a Danish public service announcement to go to the doctor's after coming
down with a fever, cough and flu-like symptoms.
The World Health Organization put out a global alert on
Monday about the new virus, which is closely related to the SARS virus that killed more than 800 people
during an outbreakin 2003. That outbreak originated in China.
The family of viruses containing SARS and
the new virus is called coronavirus, and includes the common cold.
