More Caffeine-Related Deaths Reported: The
Food and Drug Administration has received reports of 13 deaths linked to the caffeine drink 5-Hour Energy,
reports the New York Times.
In October, the FDA said it had received information about five deaths
related to another caffeine drink, Monster Energy.
The New York Times poked around the FDA and found
around 90 reports of effects from 5-Hour Energy, including seizures and, in one case, a
spontaneous abortion.
The companies that own both 5-Hour Energy and Monster Energy say their products are
safe when used as directed.
The FDA says there's not enough scientific evidence of harm to regulate
caffeine or energy-drink ingredients differently than they do now.
