Humans Threatened Neanderthals: DNews Nuggets

Humans Were a Greater Threat Than Natural Disasters: According to British-led team, "Modern humans proved a greater competitive threat to indigenous populations than natural disasters."

They arrived at this conclusion by studying ash-fall from volcanoes known to have erupted around the same time the Neanderthals disappeared from the Earth. The results led them to realize our relatives had already departed.

Neanderthals lived in parts of Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East for up to 300,000 years but appear to have vanished some 40,000 years ago. Why they died out is a matter of sharp debate. via AFP
