Why Women Date Jerks: It's all about timing, evolution and "ovulation goggles." The age old question for all the 'nice guys' out there has finally been cracked. "Women find sexy, rebellious rogues attractive," said Gizmodo, because "under the hormonal influence of ovulation, women delude themselves into thinking that the sexy bad boys will become devoted partners and better dads." Armed with this valuable information, the nice guys simply have to wait for the hormones align in their favor, right? (4:00 p.m.) via Gizmodo

Rocket Launcher Tops L.A. Gun Buyback: A program in Los Angeles to get firearms off the street turned up a rocket launcher (without the rocket), as well as 1,672 other assorted weapons, reports the L.A. Times. City residents could trade in their guns anonymously for a gift card from Visa or Ralphs for up to $100 for "lesser" guns and up to $200 for assault weapons. The breakdown of this year's buyback: 791 handguns, 527 rifles, 302 shotguns and 53 assault weapons. Police attribute the almost 20 percent drop in city gun violence in the past four years to the annual buyback. (10:15 a.m.) via L.A. Times

Building Made of Bubbles: An interactive art installation in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, mimics the global economic crisis. Visitors wearing rubber boots step into soapy-water ponds and move around steel bars in order to construct large bubbles. During construction, the Bubble Building inevitably pops when the stress gets to be too much. Such is life. (10:15 a.m.) via Inhabitat

Tallest Lego Tower Built: In the ultimate block project, 4,000 children (and some adults) worked together for five days to build a 104.6-foot-tall (31.9-meter) Lego tower. The tower is made up entirely of 50,000 of the toy plastic bricks and required a crane to build. The multicolored tower was built in front of Seoul's Olympic Stadium in honor of Lego's 80th birthday and earned a world record — beating the previous tallest LEGO tower record set in France at 103.67 feet (31.6 meters). Sleepwalkers Unite, You Are Not Alone: Rest assured, sleepwalkers may be more common than previously thought, but they are still not coordinated enough to get together for a night out on the town. If they did the country could have its biggest zombie-themed party ever as 8.5 million, or 3.6 percent of American adults have likely taken a nocturnal walkabout in the last year. That calculation comes from a telephone survey of some 20,000 adults across 15 states. The behavioral scientists at Stanford University School of Medicine leading the study found nearly 30 percent of the population had experienced night time wandering during childhood and about one in 25 adults continue to occasionally meander out of bed in their sleep.
