Sandwich Boards as Child Discipline: An Illinois couple forced their eight-year-old daughter to wear a sandwich board to school, stating: “I like to steal from others and lie about it!!” The superintendent of the school sent a letter home to parents saying that while parents have a right to discipline their child, Montrail White’s “verbal abuse” of his daughter in front of parents and other children was unacceptable and forcing her to stand in a busy parking lot while wearing the sign was unsafe. According to Lisa Belkin of the Huffington Post, this kind of discipline by humiliation may be a new parenting trend, with similar incidents happening in Miami, Denver and Memphis in the past few months. Exploding Cows: An old ranger cabin high in the frigid Rocky Mountains may have looked inviting to several lost cows. Sadly, they got stuck in the cabin, died and froze solid. “There is a lot of snow, and it’s hard to determine how many cows are there,” said Forest Service spokesman Brian Porter. Now there are fears that when the dead animals thaw, their remains may contaminate the nearby hot springs. So what next? Well, sometimes explosives are used to break up large, dead, frozen animals, so the Forest Service may decide to take the exploding cow route. (2:05 a.m.) via AP
