Bra Dryer Gets Delicates Ready Fast

//

The time has finally come. After nearly four years of development, a California company is producing a bra dryer — wait, no, Bra Dryer 2.0 — that uses infrared light to dry lingerie quickly.

Ricasol, an Irvine-based company, developed a bra-shaped dryer appliance that it says is designed to dry a bra quickly, efficiently, and preserve its shape without doing damage.

The company says the dryer contains infrared lamps that heat up to human body temperature and that blow warm air through a bra’s fabric and padding. Drying is supposed to take 20 to 30 minutes.

Usually bra care involves delicate washing and then air drying on a rack. There are some molded plastic cups that help with airflow and shape retention. Something called the BraBaby looks like a big pink Wiffle Ball to use in a regular dryer. And some ladies will use a hairdryer to speed things up.

The adjustable Bra Dyer 2.0 is expected to be energy-efficient, work faster than a hair dryer, and retail between $150 and $250 when it becomes available. Its inventor, engineer Alexander Farennikov, apparently came up with the idea back in 2009 but the time and the design wasn’t quite right until now, Gizmag’s Dave LeClair wrote.

This was clearly not made for people like me who manage fine with a drying rack — especially in arid Colorado. Instead, the Bra Dryer 2.0 is aimed at the luxury market, where bra-wearers really can’t wait to don their clean La Perlas. And I guess when your $500 designer bra is still damp, standing around with a blow dryer isn’t going to cut it.

One potential drawback for its target demographic could be that it does take up space. If they make it torso-shaped, the dryer could potentially handle a wider range of delicates. A standing torso could also double as art that’s more likely to be displayed. Hey, there’s always version 3.0.
