Live WWII Bomb Found in Munich: A
550-pound, unexploded bomb from WWII was found in central Munich by construction crews, reports
NBCNews.com.
About 3,000 residents were evacuated from the city center in case the bomb exploded
accidentally. The bomb had a chemical detonator instead of a classic one, which made it more unpredictable
and dangerous, experts said.
As they started to disarm the bomb, experts packed insulating material around it to
catch shrapnel and absorb the blast if it went off.
The Allies in WWII pelted Germany with 2 million tons
of bombs. It's estimated that 5 to 15 percent of them are intact.
