Aug. 17, 2010 -- The nearly 50-year-old ban that prevents American academic and religious groups from traveling to Cuba could soon be lifted, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Although political considerations could hold up the move until after the November elections, a decision from the Obama administration could be made as early as next week.
The report follows a recent announcement by the Cuban government to release 52 of 75 dissidents sentenced in 2003. The deal was brokered between Havana and the Catholic Church.
