July 26, 2010 -- Rare photographs of the historic aviator, Amelia Earhart, will go on display at an exhibition at The Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki, Hawaii meant to mark Earhart's 113th birthday. The collection of 65 black-and-white photos, taken during her travels to Hawaii, reveal a different side of Earhart.

The images depict Earhart not as a famous flier, but rather a tourist. She even stayed at The Royal Hawaiian during the 1930s. Rather than sporting her trademark aviator's cap and bomber jacket, Earhart dons the typical tourist's attire: wearing a swimsuit in one photo and casual wear in another.

Included in the collection are shots of Earhart's final flight to Hawaii in 1937. Later that year, she made her attempt to be the first woman to fly around the world -- a journey that would end with her disappearance over the South Pacific.
The exhibition will continue to run through the end of the year.
