Sagan & Hawking, With a Beat

In 1980, Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" series changed the world of popular science. The 14-part series is a tour de force of the stars, but woven into Sagan's poetic presentation on the wonders of the universe is a deep and abiding insight into the nature of human thought, behavior, and society.

Earlier this month, a YouTube user melodysheep put up this musical tribute to Sagan, fellow cosmologist Stephen Hawking (who make an appearance) using scenes and dialogue from "Cosmos," and complete with an autotuned Sagan singing over a beat sampled from his own in-show sound effects. The result is sort of astounding. The first line of the song is a knockout -- "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe" listen to it a couple of times, and just let it blow your mind a little bit this morning:
