Lava On Demand in New York: Gotta-See Video

//

Geology rocks! Some Syracuse University geology and art students wanted to experience the beauty and power of a volcano, but they didn't have one nearby in the frozen north-land of New York State. Not to mention these students and professors likely wanted to avoid possibility of a painful burning death. Clearly, the only solution was to create lava right on campus and dump it on some ice. It was the only logical solution.

Students, led by sculptor Bob Wysocki and geologist Jeff Karson, used crushed basalt and a specialized furnace to create these lava flows. Vulcanologists, enthusiasts and the general public now gather around and watch as the university creates on-demand lava! It's hot! via Ars Technica
