U.S. Headed for Energy Independence: The
United States will be nearly energy independent by 2035, reports the AP.
Citing a forecast on Monday by
the International Energy Agency, AP said the U.S. will outpace even Saudi Arabia for a time as energy
efficiencies and more oil resources mean the 20 percent of oil the country imports now won't be needed.
Alternative energies will play some role in global energy trends, the IEA said, but continued large
subsidies for fossil fuels will mean they're destined to stay "dominant in the global energy mix."
"Taking all new developments and policies into account, the world is still failing to put the global
energy system onto a more sustainable path," the IEA said in its report.
