Fish Flies Bug Grosse Pointe: Michigan’s large, shallow Lake St. Clair, sandwiched between Lake Erie and Lake Huron, is home to one particular bug that lives for up to two years in the sediment in a larval stage and then as an adult only has two days to fly around and mate before it dies. With millions of their carcasses littering the streets with a slight fishy smell, it’s no wonder the up-scale towns around the lake that make up Grosse Pointe call their short-term invader, fish flies, otherwise known as mayflies.
