Drill Kit Heading to Antarctica:
A massive hot-water drill that will melt through the ice at Lake Ellsworth in Antarctica has started its journey south on board a ship heading to the continent from England.
A tractor-train delivered the first batch of equipment needed for the drill to the under-ice lake site last year after traversing crevasse-scarred terrain. Engineers are expected to arrive on the site in November to set up the equipment and the science team will arrive in December to commence drilling. Early this year Russian used standard drilling equipment to break through the ice at Lake Vostok. via BBC
