US Sues To Send T. Bar Home: The U.S. government is stepping into the battle over a Tyrannosaurus bataar skeleton that sold for more than $1 million in a New York auction. The president of Mongolia, Elbegdorj Tsakhia, had protested the sale, claiming the skeleton had left his country illegally, and had obtained a restraining order from a judge in Texas where the auction house headquarters are located. Heritage Auction later announced in a joint press statement that they were working with the Mongolian president and his attorneys to investigate the skeleton's origin. Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara told news reporters that the U.S. government had filed a lawsuit on Monday in New York to force the return of the skeleton to Mongolia. She added that the customs documents for the dinosaur misstated the bones' country of origin as Great Britain instead of Mongolia and that the price was falsely listed as $15,000 instead of the estimated $950,000 to $1.5 million that was printed in the auction catalog. via WAtoday.
