Turning a former atomic bomb site into a tourist attraction is China's next big government spending plan to celebrate communist history. Because who doesn't want to go to "one of the most remotest regions in the country," as the BBC reported, and visit a place that was inundated by more than 40 nuclear tests between 1964 and 1990? It is not clear how the budgeted 6m yuan ($960,000), will help renovate the Malan base in China's Xinjiang region to make it tourist-friendly, but a 300-meter tunnel used during air strikes is expected to be on the must-see list. via BBC
