Yesterday the "big news" in global warming was that some hackers broke into the private emails of climate scientists, cherry-picked a few comments, then published them completely out of context to make it appear like the scientists were lying to the public about the validity of their own work. I'm pretty sure that if I had access to all your email messages, I could pick and choose bits to make it look like anything I want (if you doubt this, I dare you to let me try).
Today the big news is about a new report based on a huge amount and variety of excellent data, and loads of vetted science which says we are rapidly running out of time and must act now or face serious threats from global warming.
If you think the first story is more important, as do some Republican congressmen, than you are a sucker or perhaps a fool in the pocket of the coal lobby . If you think today's news is more important, then you are an intelligent person who is not swayed by sleazy misinformation campaigns.
The bottom line is this folks: We're in serious trouble on this planet and to say otherwise today is to be nothing less than anti-science. It's time to grow up and get serious. It's time to ignore lies and innuendo, stick to the facts and act. If we don't, tomorrow's big news story will be how we should have when we still had the chance.
