Nintendo commissioned West Coast Customs to create life-sized karts to commemorate Mario Kart 7 for Nintendo 3DS, which will be the first game in the series to feature 3D graphics. The two models are replicas of Mario’s Stand Kart with a hang glider attachment and Luigi’s Bumble V Kart with a rear propeller for underwater driving.

Obviously, the propeller and hang glider aren’t functional but the vehicles do work. Nintendo President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime drove around the title character’s kart and boasts that it “handles great.” While most folks may not get to drive the real deals, they can view them at the LA Auto Show through Thanksgiving weekend, or watch the episode early 2012 of “Inside West Coast Customs” that shows how the karts were constructed.
