GE's WattStation: Estimated price $1,000
Earlier this week at a conference in North Carolina, GE Energy Industrial Solutions and Lowe's announced a partnership to sell the WattStation electrical vehicle charger to consumers for home use. The initial rollout will be to five California stores in August, increasing to five dozen -- plus nationwide availability through Lowes.com -- in September. The WattStation is a Level 2 (208 to 240 V AC) charger capable of fully charging a 24 kWh battery in just 4 to 8 hours, compared with 12 to 18 hours by a standard U.S. household Level 1 (120 V AC) charger.
