BMW is the official car sponsor of the 2012 London Olympic Games with BMW supplying all of the vehicles for the games. In addition to providing BMW hybrid vehicles like the 5-Series ActiveHybrid and MINI electric cars, BMW has also built a range of 1/4 scale MINI Cooper remote controlled cars for the games. The electric remote-control MINI Coopers are being used to pick up javelins, hammers, discuses and other items from the field events, which saves time for athletes during practice and competition.

Each remote-controlled MINI can carry up to almost 18 lbs and can operate for a total 35 minutes before they need to be recharged. It only takes 80 minutes to fully recharge each of the Mini MINIs that are covered in Olymic livery. They will also be used for the Paralympic games as well.
